JOB-1524
A well-funded fintech company is expanding financial services in emerging markets, where lending and banking remain badly under-served. It is hiring a machine learning researcher to create the models that sit at the heart of its credit decision and financing systems, with past credit experience welcome but not required.
What you’ll own
- Develop risk models aimed at new customer groups and new financing products
- Devote roughly seventy percent of your time to research: devising and testing fresh model architectures for assessing credit risk
- Dig through big, messy proprietary data for fresh signals and features that predict repayment
- Investigate LLM and multimodal methods that could go beyond today’s tree-based tabular models
- Spend the remaining time bringing models into production, including rollout, data vendor needs and monitoring
- Answer to both the head of the lending business and the CTO, within a highly technical team
Profile
- Five to twelve years of ML research, including academic lab work
- A quantitative background for instance statistics, mathematics, computer science, physics, operations research or econometrics; an MS or PhD is strongly preferred
- Strong Python skills across analysis and production machine learning
- Rigorous evaluation habits: time-aware validation, calibration, cutoff tuning, leakage checks and significance testing
- Engineering features and explaining models on big high-dimensional datasets, using SQL, Pandas or Polars, and SHAP
- A plus: gradient boosting and GLM experience
- A first-principles thinker who doubts their own results and moves easily between math and production code
On-site in the San Francisco Bay Area. Visa transfers considered.
