JOB-1644
An early-stage startup in marketing analytics runs AI agents on top of enormous, fast-moving streams of event data, and its CTO has been handling the underlying infrastructure alone. The company now wants a first full-time platform specialist to inherit that domain and make it dependable at much greater scale.
What you’ll own
- Build and operate the data platform that the company’s agents run on, handling heavy ingestion volume and real-time joins and aggregations across very large datasets
- Take on the CTO’s responsibilities for infra and the data layer, and decide your own roadmap
- Partner with the small product engineering group and the CTO so the product keeps up with the demands of big consumer brands
- Create services capable of far higher throughput than today’s, and bring in Kafka or closer-to-the-metal languages when justified
- Lead work to precompute the attribution dataset, enabling live joins and aggregation over billions of rows, and design a SQL-flavored query language that agents use to read the data directly
- Diagnose and tune performance in both ClickHouse and Postgres using flamegraphs, query plans and storage layouts, and lean on coding agents for benchmarking, monitoring, incident debugging and writing code
Who this suits
- Four to ten years building low-level, distributed or backend platforms, including infrastructure work
- Depth gained working through tough problems, and firsthand knowledge of where data-intensive systems fail at scale
- A history of making big data systems quicker, sturdier and easier to scale
- Someone who writes plenty of code, builds what they design and works in short daily and weekly cycles
- Experience operating Kafka, ClickHouse or Postgres at scale is a plus, as is a background in computer science, physics, math or engineering
- Comfort with an intense, in-person culture and long working weeks
On-site in New York, NY with a full-time office schedule. Visa transfers considered.
