JOB-1414

A young robotics company that designs its own hardware and trains its own models for factory deployments is hiring a mechanical engineer who wants to see parts through their entire life. You would begin by working on end effectors for robots and gradually move to complete robot systems.

Day to day

  • Design end effectors first, then whole robot systems and the integrations that connect them to customer sites
  • Split your week about equally between design work and building and testing prototypes by hand
  • Build the fixtures you need and run your own tests
  • Move parts from small prototype batches to scaled supplier production
  • Install and commission hardware in working manufacturing environments

What you bring

  • Hands-on time with physical robots, drones, autonomous vehicles or manipulators
  • Experience carrying mechanical designs all the way from an idea to build, test and production or field use
  • Fluency in at least one mechanical CAD tool, with solid knowledge of tolerancing, materials and manufacturing processes
  • A working grasp of mechanical fundamentals such as loading, stiffness, friction and deformation, used to weigh design tradeoffs
  • Startup experience or substantial personal hardware projects
  • Roughly one to five years as a robotics or mechanical engineer

On-site in the San Francisco Bay Area, in the office full time with the occasional Saturday when needed. Visa transfers and new sponsorships considered.
