JOB-1924

A small AI research lab is building software that carries out machine learning research with very little human involvement. It is looking for a researcher who has trained models themselves and wants to push that automation further, working closely with the founder.

The work

  • Build systems that propose ideas, run experiments and improve models for customers on their own
  • Apply reinforcement learning and fine-tuning to reasoning models so that parts of the research cycle can be automated
  • Partner with engineers to turn research prototypes into dependable production systems
  • Follow new results across the field and fold the useful ones into the lab’s approach

Profile

  • Two to eight years in AI research or engineering, with a PhD or comparable research record in ML, CS or a quantitative field
  • Hands-on post-training or RL work, or evolutionary-style methods, ideally on large language models or agent models
  • Publications at leading ML venues, or equivalent work inside an industrial research group
  • Solid Python skills and the ability to ship production-quality code without close supervision
  • Curiosity about automating scientific discovery and comfort exploring open-ended directions alone
  • Large-scale distributed training experience is a bonus

Hybrid arrangement, based in San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area. Visa transfers are considered.
