JOB-1687
A Series C telecom company with a security-first engineering culture is expanding quickly and wants its first engineer dedicated to developer experience. The role is closer to a product job than a support one: your users are strong engineers working on cryptography and mobile network software, and your task is to remove whatever slows them down. Over time it could grow into team leadership.
Scope
- Take charge of build and release automation, local environments and internal tools, reducing friction across engineering, with special attention to the way the team produces and delivers Go code
- Partner with the platform, product, infrastructure, networking and security groups to find pain points and deliver the fixes with the biggest payoff
- Form a view on AI-assisted coding: choose tools, set guardrails and measure whether productivity actually improves
- Set conventions, written guidance and operational runbooks that hold up as headcount rises
- Act as a senior technical voice who mentors later hires and challenges the team where it can improve
About you
- At least four years as a software engineer, ideally more, and comfortable leading and mentoring
- Multi-year experience at a high-growth startup through a period of rapid scaling
- Background building internal platforms, developer tooling or infrastructure
- Fluent in a modern backend language such as Go, Python, TypeScript or Rust, with a strong sense of security
- Familiar with scaling infrastructure and backend systems and with working across several engineering teams
- Protocol Buffers experience is a bonus
Hybrid, three days a week in the office in New York, NY or the Washington, DC area. Visa transfers considered, but not new sponsorship.
