JOB-1563

A very early startup working on prescription drug benefits wants a backend-focused engineer to be its first technical hire beyond the founder. The product moves money and medication access, so mistakes are costly and reliability matters more than anything else.

What you’ll own

  • The whole backend: APIs, database design, permissions, protection of sensitive health data, backups, staging, monitoring and deployment, all made safe and routine
  • A live pricing engine that refreshes quotes from several suppliers on a short cycle and sends every claim down the lowest-cost path
  • Eligibility and claims data moving through the adjudication layer
  • A home-grown claims engine, run in parallel with the third-party system on historical claims until the outputs are identical
  • Payment flows between benefit brokers, the company and pharmacies, with demanding uptime targets
  • Early schema and architecture decisions that must hold up as membership grows by orders of magnitude

About you

  • Three to eight years as a backend or backend-leaning full-stack engineer
  • Experience running money-sensitive production systems where errors are expensive, such as ledger systems, trading platforms, payments or essential infrastructure
  • Comfort being the only engineer and challenging a strong-minded founder when you disagree
  • Daily use of AI coding tools
  • A background at a top fintech or infrastructure startup is a plus
