A technology company that fights fraud and verifies identities for financial institutions is looking for a backend-minded manager to head its core platform group. The team owns the services and external APIs behind the company’s flagship products, and the manager stays close to the code while growing the team.
Responsibilities
- Lead and expand a team of backend and platform engineers
- Run planning, prioritization and shipping with reliability and scale in mind
- Set the technical direction for services and APIs so they stay secure, fast and maintainable
- Turn product requirements into sound backend designs with product and frontend colleagues
- Help data science put models into production and wire decisioning into API-based workflows
- Work with infrastructure on developer experience, observability and uptime
- Support incident response, hold the team to SLAs, and keep the hiring bar high
Qualifications
- Six to ten years as a senior or staff-level backend engineer, plus two to five or more years managing backend or platform teams
- Experience building enterprise-grade, customer-facing, API-driven systems at scale
- Ability to manage eight to ten or more engineers, including staff-level ones, splitting time roughly evenly between people leadership and technical work such as architecture and code review
- Background at strong early-stage companies or scale-ups
- Polished communication for both deep technical debates and non-technical audiences
- Stack: React, Go, Python, PostgreSQL, Docker, OpenSearch and AWS
