Founding Engineer (Pre-Product Consumer Fintech)

A pre-product consumer fintech startup is looking for its very first technical hire to create an AI-driven digital bank from scratch. The service is meant to act on customers’ behalf, helping them reduce what they owe and manage cash more intelligently. You would own the technology from prototype through launch of the first product, with a clear route into engineering leadership as the company grows.

What you’ll own

• The first release across web, mobile and backend, including secure infrastructure and movement of money
• Connecting third-party fintech partners for banking-as-a-service, payments, identity verification and anti-money-laundering checks into the banking, card-issuing and lending foundations
• Choice of architecture, data layer, cloud vendors and resiliency strategy
• Agent-based workflows that influence real financial decisions safely, with auditable, deterministic logic and compliance controls
• Technical standards for later hires, while working with contract engineers in the meantime

Profile

• Five or more years of full-stack engineering, including shipping a product from zero to real users
• Strong React, React Native and TypeScript skills through to backend and cloud infrastructure
• Fintech or regulated-industry background, ideally in banking, lending or card issuing
• Built AI agents or agentic workflows beyond simply using chat tools
• Appetite for managing and growing a team of engineers
• A computer science or technical degree
