JOB-1462

A small, founding-stage space company is developing laboratory-style instruments that fly in orbit to support research and manufacturing off the planet. It needs a mechanical engineer who builds things by hand and thinks about the whole vehicle, working next to a compact group of engineering leaders.

Day to day

  • Design and analyze electromechanical and microfluidic hardware for flight, balancing mass, thermal behavior and integration limits
  • Prototype quickly using 3D printing (FDM and SLA), laser cutting and CNC machining, then test and refine
  • Produce CAD models, drawings and supporting documentation for fabrication
  • Run design-for-manufacturing reviews with production partners and carry designs into manufacture
  • Support assembly and verification campaigns for whole flight systems

Qualifications

  • Roughly four to ten years in mechanical engineering for space, aerospace, automotive or marine products, with a BS in mechanical engineering or similar
  • Hands-on design and prototyping of space hardware such as payloads, in-space manufacturing, life support or diagnostic and bio-instrumentation
  • Systems-level view covering thermal, weight and cross-discipline integration
  • Solid knowledge of polymer materials and how they behave in real hardware
  • Early-stage experience owning projects with fast design cycles is a plus
  • Must qualify as a US Person under export control rules

On-site in Los Angeles. Visa sponsorship is not available.
