JOB-1444

An early-stage space startup is developing orbital power infrastructure that spacecraft can connect to and draw energy from. It needs an electrical engineer with real spaceflight experience to take ownership of the power subsystem, replacing a departing teammate. This is a hands-on individual contributor seat that calls for a strong ownership mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Own the spacecraft’s electrical power subsystem (EPS), covering batteries, generation, conditioning and distribution
  • Design high-voltage PMAD architecture for vacuum operation, allowing for plasma charging, corona discharge, electrical breakdown and magnetospheric effects
  • Look after the health of high-voltage batteries and make sure the parts of the electrical system integrate cleanly across the vehicle
  • Take hardware from a small-satellite demonstrator to flight starting at the breadboard and moving through schematics, board layout, lab validation and debugging
  • Guide the electronics through assembly, integration and test, then environmental qualification

Qualifications

  • Four or more years as an electrical engineer in the space industry, with spacecraft power systems at the core
  • Ease with extreme voltages and with how electrical parts interact once in orbit
  • Experience with PCDUs, solar arrays, battery management and high-voltage distribution
  • Experience taking hardware through formal design reviews and qualification
  • Experience confined to cars, the military or any other non-space sector does not count
  • Independent and hands-on, willing to tackle problems alone

Fully on-site in Los Angeles. Applicants must be US citizens or green card holders; visa sponsorship and transfers are unavailable.
