A Series A startup is replacing manual accounting work with AI agents and wants senior and staff engineers who will each own an entire finance domain, such as controls, tax, payroll, fixed assets, cash, close, reporting or revenue. Engineers ship their domain end to end inside a small pod, sitting beside controllers, accountants and finance chiefs instead of waiting for product specs.
The problems
- Create AI agents that accountants and auditors can rely on, with evaluation, monitoring, safeguards and checking built for non-deterministic AI
- Supply agents with suitable financial context drawn from contracts, policies, ledgers and past decisions, while avoiding bloat, drift and data leaks
- Consolidate data from email, CRMs, banks, billing systems, payroll providers and ERPs into one reconciled source of truth
- Run durable AI workflows that can be replayed safely over long durations across unreliable, stateful enterprise tools
- Apply changes to the underlying financial platforms in a way that is idempotent, auditable and fully traceable
What we value
- Fluency with AI coding agents, firm views on matching agents to tasks, and real production code shipped through them
- Five-plus years in backend or infrastructure engineering that includes production AI agent systems
- Depth in distributed systems, data infrastructure or workflow engines
- Ability to pick up an accounting process fast and turn it into working software
- An owner’s mindset: you scope your own work, think from the buyer’s point of view and keep moving without needing instruction
