JOB-1438

A fast-growing genomics sequencing company needs a platform engineer to architect and protect the infrastructure behind its laboratories. The job mixes real on-premises work with a sizeable cloud footprint, and it suits a hands-on builder who would rather design systems than simply keep them running.

What you’ll own

  • Plan and expand lab networking plus on-site storage and GPU compute that handle very large volumes of sequencing data
  • Build the bespoke lab network from the ground up using GitHub Actions, Terraform and Ansible, then pass daily operation to an IT engineer through runbooks
  • Lead security engineering: firewalls, protection for the robotic fleet, penetration and red-team testing of web systems (AI agents included), vulnerability management and incident response
  • Design and operate secure AWS environments covering networking, identity and containers, linked back to the physical labs
  • Make it quicker to bring new laboratories online as the company expands

Background we want

  • Seven years or more working in security, systems, infrastructure or platform engineering, with DevSecOps and on-premises exposure
  • Experience in physical settings where uptime counted, such as data centers, factories, laboratories, robotics or other hardware-heavy companies; a purely SaaS history falls short
  • Strong AWS and infrastructure-as-code skills, plus Python and Bash
  • Deep networking knowledge across VLANs, VPNs, firewalls and routing, including networks you designed yourself; pfSense or MikroTik strongly preferred
  • Most of your career at early- to mid-stage startups, ideally the earliest person in your discipline

Hybrid in the San Francisco Bay Area. Work visas are not supported for this role.
