Staff Backend Engineer (AI for Institutional Finance)

Our client is a startup that supplies software infrastructure to institutional financial firms, using AI agents to take over work that is still done by hand. It is hiring a staff-level backend engineer to guide how its systems grow and to build the technical groundwork for its AI features.

Scope

• Be accountable for scaling critical systems as client demand rises
• Define service architecture and tune performance across the backend
• Build the technical base on which the company’s AI capabilities run
• Write high-throughput solutions personally rather than only directing them
• Handle databases, infrastructure and third-party integrations for institutional clients

Qualifications

• Six to ten years as a backend engineer with a record of building and scaling systems
• Deep experience running PostgreSQL at scale
• Production AWS experience: designing, deploying and operating services
• Time at a high-growth technology company and comfort with startup-level ownership
• Java with Spring Boot or a comparable backend framework is a plus
• Flexibility to respond outside normal working hours when the business needs it
