A fintech startup at the seed stage working on making home insurance more affordable for American homeowners is hiring one of its first engineers. You would be the third engineer, partnering with the CTO as the company heads toward a Series A, with a focus on backend systems plus a lighter share of frontend.

What you’ll own

  • Ship new product capabilities from idea to launch, mostly backend APIs, services and pipelines for data, with some UI work
  • Push product expansion, including moving a beta insurance line to general availability and folding brand-new offerings into the existing platform
  • Make foundational calls on architecture, DevOps, scale and the long-range shape of the system
  • Create internal tools that let non-engineers resolve problems themselves and cut the volume of tickets reaching engineering
  • Use AI coding assistants to move quickly across the stack

Who thrives here

  • Four to twelve years in full-stack or backend engineering, shipping software products
  • Production features delivered end to end as an individual contributor, with early-stage startup or zero-to-one experience
  • Solid command of relational databases and API design, and proficiency in Python and/or TypeScript
  • Self-starter who handles ambiguity and acts without waiting to be told
  • Plus: B2B2C experience, heavy use of AI coding assistants, or interest in insurance and fintech

Hybrid in New York, NY, with in-office days four times a week. Visa transfers considered.
