JOB-1843
An early-stage startup building AI-powered work management software for mission-critical government and defense teams is looking for a founding engineer to lead its AI stack. The existing agent capabilities are basic, and the job is to rebuild them into a production-grade system while working directly with the cofounders.
Scope
- Own and rebuild the core AI infrastructure, taking it from simple agent features to a robust production platform
- Design a knowledge graph that models how teams and organizational units operate in the field
- Build an agent platform customers use to author, tune and launch agents of their own plus event-triggered automations
- Set up inference that spans several model providers, with solid governance, role-based permissions and deterministic enforcement of workflows
- Spend roughly a third of your time on general full-stack product work, sharing on-call duty with the cofounders
- Shape the technical roadmap and set the engineering bar
Profile
- Three to eight years as a full-stack, backend or product engineer on AI-native products
- Experience at a high-growth, AI-native startup, ideally Seed through Series C
- Shipped LLM-powered products to real users, including multi-step agents, retrieval and evaluation work, with attention to quality, latency and cost
- Strong TypeScript, Python, Next.js, Express and Postgres
- Experience with user-facing vertical AI products, not only internal tools
- A technical bachelor’s degree from a US university
- Must be a US citizen, since the work requires eligibility for a security clearance
On-site in the San Francisco Bay Area. No visa sponsorship or transfers.
