JOB-1620

  • Permanent
  • Remote

A nonprofit education technology organization runs a global platform where learners teach and support each other through live tutoring, discussion groups and community. It is hiring a product-minded engineer to join a very small engineering group and take ownership of whole features.

How you’ll spend your time

  • Carry features from understanding the user problem with stakeholders through scoping, specs, build and iteration
  • Work in compact cross-functional squads of designers, engineers and program staff, launching experimental programs and new ways to learn
  • Contribute product suggestions and decide on engineering trade-offs, with backing from senior colleagues
  • Produce tidy, maintainable code using Postgres, Node.js, Next.js, React and TypeScript, and review others’ work
  • Share an on-call rotation of about one week every five to seven weeks and streamline operations and trust-and-safety tooling

Background that fits

  • Three to six years of full-stack engineering
  • Shipped consumer-facing features used by thousands of people, ideally at a small, fast-growing consumer startup
  • Comfort with typed languages and relational databases
  • Ability to define problems, write specs and work with non-technical colleagues
  • A real interest in education or social impact
  • Nice to have: ed-tech, marketplaces, video or real-time products, trust and safety work, AWS or GCP

Remote within the United States. Visa sponsorship and transfers are not available; applicants must already have U.S. work authorization.
