Our client is an early-stage startup applying AI to professional accounting work, and it wants a founding engineer who leans toward product, design and user experience. The person will speak directly with customers, shape flows for intricate workflows and carry features from prototype all the way to rollout.
Responsibilities
- Take ownership of product areas, starting with talking to customers and sketching prototypes and ending with polished, production-ready features that save users time
- Build across the stack, covering UI, services and AI, with special care for making complicated accounting processes feel simple
- Collaborate with founders and accountants to spot problems, question assumptions and decide priorities from real usage
- Shape the system design, schemas and screens, and decide when ordinary code, AI-driven workflows or fully autonomous agents fit best
- Adapt strong interaction patterns from leading products for finance professionals
- Write brief product specs, validate feasibility and own the launch, including fixes and performance follow-up
- Try out AI tools in building and operating the product, and turn the useful ones into team habits
Background
- Two to five years working as a product engineer or across every layer, with current JavaScript and TypeScript skills
- Experience at an early-stage venture-backed startup, or as a former founder
- Experience as a design engineer, or at companies known for strong design culture
- Evident taste in UI and UX, shown through a portfolio, personal site or shipped products
- Comfort working with customers directly
- A plus: AI product experience in a niche vertical, for example accounting, fintech, insurance, law or compliance
On-site in New York, NY, four to five days a week. Visa transfers considered.
