JOB-1980
A Series B conversational AI company that operates fully remotely is hiring an engineering manager to lead a squad of senior engineers. The ideal manager is a servant leader who empowers others rather than coding, and who has real experience at startups that scaled quickly.
Leadership remit
- Build and lead a squad of about eight to fifteen engineers, handling recruiting, growth paths, performance reviews and budget planning
- Sit alongside other leaders on a close-knit management group that meets several times weekly and jointly decides engineering-wide matters
- Set a quick pace, question assumptions and foster a culture where engineers deliver rapidly and learn from failure instead of over-deliberating
- Deliver predictable, high-quality results on the priorities customers care about most and be accountable for your team’s timelines
- Turn personal AI experiments into shared team practices that raise output, quality and speed to release
- Partner with product, delivery and other functions to keep the squad tied to customer value after launch
Qualifications
- Ten or more years in software engineering, with at least five managing teams of eight or more
- Startup experience at the Series A to C stage, ideally joining when the company was small and growing through its scaling phase
- A credible engineering background, so senior engineers trust your judgment
- Proven history recruiting, growing and, when needed, making hard calls on people’s performance
- Hands-on AI fluency; founder, voice or telephony experience is a bonus
Fully remote within the United States, with in-person travel roughly every six weeks. Visa sponsorship and transfers are not available.
