JOB-1876

A heavily funded research lab that applies frontier machine learning to rethink how semiconductors get designed is hiring its second dedicated infrastructure engineer. You would partner with the engineer who built the original setup, reinforce what exists, and then start new initiatives as the researcher headcount grows.

The work

  • Take charge of the whole Google Cloud estate, from access management and monitoring to storage, networking and compute, so every change is repeatable and reviewable through Terraform or Pulumi
  • Be accountable for build and release automation in GitHub Actions and CircleCI, tuning it for dependability, quick turnaround and a good engineer experience
  • Pair with the lab’s first infrastructure engineer, build on the architecture already in place, and remove obstacles for ML and research teams
  • Raise operational standards across observability, incident handling, spend tracking and security, Kubernetes clusters included
  • Pick up new initiatives as the researcher count rises: additional services, fresh environments and internal tools

What you bring

  • Seven or more years as a DevOps or SRE engineer who designed and operated production systems
  • Deep, current experience running live workloads on GCP
  • Strong command of IaC tooling and delivery pipelines, plus the engineering fundamentals to write and ship real production code
  • A background at companies with a very high talent bar, or at startups backed by top-tier investors
  • Located in the Bay Area; an electrical or mechanical engineering background is a bonus

On-site in the South Bay Area (Silicon Valley). Visa transfers considered.
