A profitable, venture-backed startup that automates tax preparation with AI agents for major accounting firms is hiring an early engineer. The product already has paying customers, and the goal now is to scale it and open up adjacent accounting workflows.
Core duties
- Build the central tax-automation system wearing a generalist hat, leaning mostly toward backend with some frontend work
- Help deliver the next major release, a significant relaunch planned for the coming year
- Make backend architecture choices independently, in close collaboration with engineering leadership
- Develop pipelines that combine LLMs and OCR, and convert what customers tell the team into product features
- Explore new offerings in tax and other accounting areas such as audit
Experience that fits
- Two to seven years as a software engineer with solid Python, plus TypeScript as a big advantage
- Hands-on ownership of backend architecture decisions, with features taken from design to production
- Time at a fast-growing, venture-funded startup between seed and Series B stage, building 0-to-1; long stretches at large tech companies or slow enterprises count against
- Experience shipping LLM or agent-based features is expected; document extraction or large-scale data pipelines is a bonus
- A technical degree, preferably in computer science, from a strong US university
- A builder who brings ownership and a sense of urgency
Remote within the United States. Applicants must already be authorized to work in the US; visa sponsorship and transfers are not offered.
