Staff Backend Engineer (Messaging Infrastructure Startup)

A Series A company that operates large-scale text messaging infrastructure is growing quickly across enterprise, small business and political customers. It wants a staff-level backend engineer to join a compact, high-caliber team and take on technical work with company-wide consequences.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of the core backend for routing, delivery, messaging and automation
• Design and release production services that move very high message volumes reliably
• Lead new products from nothing, building whole product surfaces rather than single features
• Work hand in hand with a lean group of engineers
• Solve tough infrastructure problems at large scale and move quickly from concept to production

About you

• Six or more years of backend-heavy engineering at early-stage startups (pre-seed through Series B)
• At least two of the last four years building product at a well-funded venture-backed startup
• A visible path of promotion, from senior to staff, lead or founding-engineer level
• Experience building complete products from zero to one
• Professional Node.js and TypeScript, plus queue-based infrastructure such as AWS SQS
• Independent ownership of technical projects and a knack for explaining complex ideas in plain language
• A bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, math or a related field
• Frontend experience is a plus
