Job Description
The Legal Practice Assistant provides comprehensive administrative support to attorneys and internal teams, delivering consistent, high-quality service in a fast-paced legal environment. This role requires deep familiarity with litigation procedures, excellent organizational and communication skills, and a proactive, team-oriented mindset. The firm’s Trial and Litigation Group handles significant crisis litigation including constitutional law, wildfire litigation, COVID-19-related claims, land use civil rights litigation, First Amendment and takings claims, and class action matters. The group is active across all litigation stages—from pleadings and discovery through trial and appeal—in both state and federal courts.
Responsibilities:
- Draft, revise, and proofread legal documents, correspondence, pleadings, and memoranda.
- Format court documents in compliance with federal and state court rules, including generation of TOAs and TOCs.
- Handle e-filing and physical filing in multiple jurisdictions.
- Manage litigation calendars and deadlines using calendaring software (e.g., CompuLaw).
- Maintain attorney schedules and coordinate case-related logistics.
- Provide support across document management, billing, and litigation support tools (e.g., Office 365, iManage, Adobe, CCC Macros).
- Communicate clearly and professionally with attorneys, staff, and clients.
- Collaborate across teams to uphold best practices and support firm operations
- Maintain professionalism under pressure and during periods of high workload Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience as a legal secretary or legal assistant.
- Prior litigation experience in California state and federal court is required; appellate experience is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of court rules and litigation support processes.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet tight deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Proficient with legal document management systems, calendaring tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong initiative, dependability, and attention to detail.
Compensation: Pay is based on location, experience, and qualifications.
