JOB-1960
A high-growth genomics company operates laboratories around the world, each of which functions like a small data center with GPU computing and a large number of robots. It needs a senior IT engineer to take ownership of IT across all sites and eventually lead a team built around that function.
What you’ll own
- Stand up new lab sites from scratch, including purchasing network equipment, wiring up devices and setting up the network
- Operate and extend a custom networking stack on pfSense and MikroTik, provisioned with Terraform and Ansible, to support heavy data transfer between sites
- Run core IT services: Google Workspace, Rippling, employee onboarding and offboarding, device management and role-based access
- Handle security and audit readiness, including SOC 2 via Vanta or Drata, endpoint protection, penetration tests and phishing exercises
- Grow into managing a team as headcount expands, reporting to a senior leader
Profile
- Seven to twelve years working in IT, including hands-on work standing up physical sites, offices or laboratories for a company with a tangible product
- Practical experience with self-managed network gear (MikroTik, pfSense/OPNsense or UniFi) over managed dashboards
- A career spent largely at fast-scaling startups (Series A through D), staying in roles for a couple of years or more
- Light scripting ability (Python, Bash); tinkering with a home lab counts in your favor
- Clear communicator who pushes back constructively and aims to move into management
Hybrid in the San Francisco Bay Area. Unable to offer visa sponsorship or transfers.
