JOB-1861

An embodied-AI startup that develops intelligence software for robots meant to work across many kinds of machines is hiring a firmware engineer. The job is to write and tune the low-level code that makes motors, sensors and controllers behave, so that the robots can actually move in the real world.

Technical scope

  • Develop microcontroller and embedded Linux firmware, centered on brushless motor control with field-oriented control, PWM, and current and position loops
  • Design, debug and integrate the lower-layer communication links, including RS-485, CAN, UART and SPI
  • Build and maintain real-time software on an RTOS such as FreeRTOS or a real-time Linux kernel
  • Work alongside hardware engineers to get fresh circuit boards running and fold them into electromechanical assemblies
  • Connect firmware to higher-level frameworks like ROS and DDS so robot components communicate cleanly

Experience required

  • Three to ten years of firmware or embedded engineering, using C/C++ for motor control or robotics
  • Electrical, robotics or mechatronics engineering degree at the bachelor’s or master’s level
  • Hands-on firmware background in robotics, motor drives or other embedded products
  • Command of brushless DC motor control, including field-oriented control and PWM
  • Solid C/C++ skills in embedded work and comfort with debugging tools
  • Real-time embedded experience plus protocol work over CAN, SPI and RS-485
  • Ease working in a lab with hardware; pure software engineers without firmware exposure are not a fit

On-site in the South Bay Area (Silicon Valley). Visa transfers considered.
