JOB-1696
An education technology startup uses AI-driven scheduling to serve schools across many states, and its optimization team needs another senior engineer. The team sits where mathematical programming, ML and product engineering meet, and it is tackling a notoriously difficult combinatorial problem. It is a small group with a strong technical lead.
What you’ll own
- Build and extend the central optimizer (a mixed-integer or linear programming formulation), together with the surrounding backend services and infrastructure
- Explore ML and AI techniques that make schedules more accurate, faster to produce and easier for users to work with
- Split your time roughly four to one between server-side and user-interface work so customers can drive the optimizer more directly
- Run business-critical systems from design to operation, including on-call duty and customer issue troubleshooting alongside school-success colleagues who sit outside engineering
- Lead sizable technical efforts inside your squad and move toward a tech-lead position
About you
- Four to ten years of professional engineering, shipping live software and steering complicated work
- Depth in linear optimization, production ML or backend API and infrastructure work, plus curiosity about the others; solver experience such as Gurobi or CP-SAT is valued
- Has built or owned a vital algorithm, model or optimization component in a core product area
- High ownership: comfortable on-call and working across Python, AWS, Terraform and frontend
- Clear communicator with non-technical colleagues who cares about the product and its domain
- Able to overlap with early-morning hours for Europe and India
- A pure research profile is not the aim; shipping product features is
Remote within the United States, with an East Coast base preferred. Visa transfers considered.
