A lean, subscription-based consumer wellness business with one of the largest apps in its category is recruiting a head of engineering to lead every technical area. The goal is a compact team that works natively with AI and out-builds much larger organizations. Reporting to the CEO, the successful candidate joins the leadership group and stays close to the code.
Scope
- Define where engineering is headed and sequence the work, linking each investment to business outcomes: acquiring users, keeping them, converting them to paid plans, and staying reliable
- Assemble and manage a small, strong team while remaining a hands-on contributor close to both the system design and the hands-on coding
- Be accountable for what ships on iOS, Android, web and the backend, prioritizing speed, quality and predictable releases
- Weave current AI tooling into how the team plans, writes, tests and releases software
- Keep the technology modern, secure and economical, and hold reliability to a demanding standard for an app people open every night
- Collaborate across the product, data and growth functions so the company can act quickly on dependable data
Ideal background
- Eight or more years in engineering leadership, including substantial time growing and running compact, high-performing groups
- Solid technical grounding across iOS and Android, web, server-side systems and cloud infrastructure (the stack includes Swift, Kotlin, React and Node)
- Demonstrated success turning a team into one that works natively with AI and raising its output measurably
- Experience assessing team caliber, managing performance and rebuilding where needed
- Comfort with consumer-business metrics and with talking to executives
- Scrappy, high-agency temperament
