JOB-1817
An early-stage startup creating an AI-native, code-driven CAD platform for designing buildings is adding one of its first full-time employees to lead mechanical, electrical and plumbing work. The role combines real design experience, particularly in HVAC, with strong software skills, and the person is expected to act as a co-founder would by questioning assumptions and exposing gaps in product strategy.
Highlights
- Define and build libraries covering HVAC, electrical, plumbing and piping on top of the CAD engine, turning domain knowledge into pass/fail tests for AI-produced output
- Own product thinking for this vertical: decide what excellent MEP tooling looks like and shape its roadmap
- Review and quality-check designs generated by AI against engineering norms and practical needs
- Spend a few hours each week with partner design firms to learn their workflows, seed the libraries and onboard early customers
- Write Python and TypeScript with React to ship content packs and platform features, using AI coding assistants to move fast
Experience that fits
- Two to ten years of professional MEP design at an engineering firm in HVAC, electrical or plumbing, rather than neighboring construction roles
- Software engineering beyond simple scripting
- A degree in mechanical engineering, computer science, physics or computational design
- Initiative and a steady stream of product ideas of your own
- Comfort with occasional customer contact
- Helpful: CAD or BIM tools, plus HVAC load calculations and equipment selection
On-site in the San Francisco Bay Area, five days a week. Visa transfers and sponsorship considered.
