JOB-1627
A small robotics startup is building a mobile robot with a multi-joint arm that performs routine hands-on chores inside data centers. It needs a generalist software engineer who will own systems from design through deployment on machines that run in real facilities.
What you’ll build
- Maintain and extend the Rust codebase behind the robots, covering inverse-kinematics solvers, closed-loop controllers that run in real time, and fleet infrastructure
- Improve the remote-operation system used to drive the robots and gather training data at scale
- Contribute to firmware and lower-layer software to make the machines steadier and more dependable
- Integrate sensors, cameras and other hardware alongside the mechanical and firmware teams
- Pick up whatever unusual problems appear, such as media streaming, ROS2 integrations, actuator interfaces and data collection tooling
- Tidy and fortify the software ahead of live data-center deployments
What we’re after
- Four to ten years in backend or systems software, with a focus on Rust (or a strong systems language and willingness to switch)
- A degree in computer science, robotics or a related field
- A history at robotics, autonomous-vehicle or other hardware-adjacent software companies
- Self-direction and end-to-end ownership without needing guidance
- Helpful extras: robotic arms, IK solvers, teleoperation, Linux and networking, ROS2, and hardware buses like CAN or EtherCAT
On-site in the San Francisco Bay Area, five to six days a week. Visa transfers considered for experienced candidates.
