JOB-1479

A lean hardware startup that builds solar-powered camera units for roadways is growing its fleet nationwide and needs an electrical engineer to make the devices tougher, more dependable and easier to manufacture. The ideal person has taken a board all the way through, watched hardware misbehave outdoors, and taken the lessons on board.

Responsibilities

  • Design, iterate on and test circuit boards in Altium across the whole lifecycle, from schematics to production and installation in the field
  • Troubleshoot and verify hardware at the lab bench with scopes, supplies and assorted test equipment
  • Raise robustness and reliability of units that run on tight power budgets as deployments multiply
  • Write firmware in C or C++, or Python scripts, to bring up and verify designs
  • Work with embedded, operations and software colleagues, with occasional quarterly trips for installations and calibration

Qualifications

  • Two to six years in hardware electrical engineering, including full PCB design in Altium or a comparable tool
  • Experience at a startup or small team with broad ownership of hardware
  • A BS or MS in engineering
  • Embedded firmware or test-automation skills in Python or C-family languages
  • Plus: hardware used outdoors or unattended, and knowledge of solar, battery management or DC-DC conversion
  • Willingness to work some nights or weekends for field work
