Machine Learning Engineer (Consumer AI Startup)

A consumer technology startup is assembling its founding engineering group and wants a machine learning engineer to design the intelligence beneath its apps. The work blends serious ML with close attention to how the finished product feels to everyday users.

Your focus

• Design the ML and retrieval systems behind the heart of the product
• Evolve the data pipelines that take in, label, enrich and condense large amounts of user data
• Stand up inference infrastructure serving both live and offline workloads
• Lead model choice, fine-tuning, embeddings, retrieval-augmented generation and evaluation practices
• Prototype ML-driven concepts fast, then harden what holds up
• Work with designers, product managers and engineers so features such as personalization, search and assistant-style interactions feel simple

What you bring

• Five or more years as a software or ML engineer on consumer AI or ML systems, ideally at a consumer product company or a leading AI lab
• Shipped ML features from zero to one, such as personalization, ranking, search or recommendations, that reached real users
• Custom model work with embeddings, recommendation or personalization, beyond prompting alone
• A product-first mindset that works backward from the user experience
• Comfort with ambiguity and with taking full ownership of problems from data modeling through to the polished experience
• A degree in CS, math, EECS or similar
