JOB-1516

A venture-backed industrial company that grows by buying precision manufacturing businesses needs someone to fill the top of its deal funnel. Most good targets will never appear on an inbound list, so this person will travel, meet founders and plant leaders face to face, and earn their trust. The role faces outward and runs on relationships rather than desk research.

The work

  • Build and run the outbound hunt for acquisition targets: identify, rank and personally approach founder-operators of machining and precision-parts businesses that match the company’s strategy
  • Make in-person visits the main way you source, with travel as the core of the job rather than an occasional extra
  • Develop long-term relationships with company owners, intermediaries, trade-group contacts and referral partners across the industry
  • Judge a business and the person running it fast: is this a genuine opportunity, and is the owner truly open to a sale or partnership
  • Pass warm, qualified targets to the next pipeline stage with enough background that nobody starts cold
  • Keep a disciplined, thoroughly documented pipeline, since results come from volume and persistence

Profile

  • Two to four years in business development, supplier or vendor management, or sales at a manufacturing, hardware, aerospace or defense company
  • Supplier-facing experience, such as supplier development or site visits to machine shops
  • Experience sourcing or selling large hardware or equipment
  • High emotional intelligence and the ability to win trust from business owners who are often a generation older
  • A STEM, finance, economics or supply chain degree
  • Purely financial M&A or private equity backgrounds without hands-on manufacturing exposure are not a fit

On-site in Los Angeles or New York, NY, with regular travel (about one week a month). US citizenship is required, so no visa sponsorship or transfers.
