JOB-1519
A young hardware startup is turning laboratory prototypes into alpha-stage products for its first design partners. It is looking for a power electronics engineer who enjoys hardware work spanning the whole chain, from circuit concepts to systems that actually run, and who treats AI tools as part of everyday engineering.
Your focus
- Carry rough bench-scale setups through to structured, testable, customer-ready alpha hardware
- Architect and construct DC power systems at high voltage, including conversion stages, switching circuits and power distribution built on modern semiconductors such as SiC
- Model and check electrical, thermal and whole-system performance in tools such as SPICE or PLECS, then iterate quickly
- Lead lab commissioning, fault-finding and characterization on high-power equipment, resolving issues around switching behavior, timing, sensing and safeguards
- Use agents, LLMs and simulation-assisted methods to speed up design, test and iteration
- Coordinate outside partners for board fabrication, parts sourcing and enclosures so the product comes together cleanly
- Balance speed, heat, reliability and ease of manufacture to reach a working product quickly
Qualifications
- Two or more years designing, prototyping and testing power electronics
- Experience owning hardware from prototype to a validated system, including simulation, bring-up and iteration
- Hands-on gate-driver design for fast-switching architectures
- Fluent in electrical simulation software
- A degree in electrical engineering, or clear aptitude for power electronics
- Strong intuition for electrical, thermal and mechanical tradeoffs
- Bonus: EV, charging, solar or battery storage background; side projects such as Formula SAE
On-site in Los Angeles or the San Francisco Bay Area. Visa sponsorship and transfers are not available.
