JOB-1440
A genomics company running a very large fleet of laboratory liquid-handling robots is hiring a research associate who is shifting from bench science into software and robotics. The role links the research scientists to the machines, so that new sequencing chemistry becomes dependable automated runs that can expand fast at low cost.
Day to day
- Partner with research scientists to convert rough, informal protocol drafts into precise ordered steps
- Program Opentrons and Hamilton liquid handlers with AI assistance and established robotics libraries
- Execute each protocol manually and then on the robot, confirming that the outputs agree
- Diagnose and resolve physical issues such as weak pickup volumes or viscous liquids that call for a different pipetting approach
- Prototype basic 3D-printed fittings and add-ons for the robot fleet
Profile
- Roughly two years in a bench-based research associate position, in academia or biotech, with solid command of wet-lab molecular biology methods
- Hands-on time with automated pipetting robots, ideally having designed and run your own experiments on one
- Self-taught Python, for instance data-analysis scripts or tiny programs that drive lab devices
- Bachelor’s degree in a field such as biology, biochemistry or biomedical engineering
- Basic CAD modeling and 3D printing is a plus
Entirely in person, based in the San Francisco Bay Area; relocation help is not offered. Work visas are not supported.
