JOB-1424

A defense-technology startup developing electro-optical seekers for interceptors needs a seasoned hardware engineer responsible for the seeker as a complete functioning system. The design has already flown and gathered data, and the next step is making it affordable enough to build in volume.

Your scope

  • Combine cameras, optics, processing hardware, inertial sensors and power supplies into the seeker, including enclosure design, wiring harnesses and assembly
  • Assemble, power on and calibrate every unit so all behave identically, including non-uniformity correction, defective-pixel mapping, radiometric calibration and boresight alignment
  • Drive the loop of building, flying, analyzing data and redesigning across several seeker variants in parallel
  • Tune and redesign with the algorithm lead and an opto-mechanical engineer based on flight results
  • Manage supply-chain tasks, test and environmental qualification, and write Python scripts and use AI assistants to take repetitive work off the team

Who thrives here

  • Eight to fifteen years of hands-on integration of optics or imaging hardware for intelligent sensors
  • Experience fielding complete camera or electro-optical products end to end
  • Rapid prototyping skill at the electronics bench, from breadboard to brassboard
  • CAD and GD&T proficiency for fitting dense assemblies into tight envelopes
  • A degree in mechanical, optical or electrical engineering, physics or a related field
  • Daily use of frontier AI tools; defense or seeker experience strongly preferred
  • Steady tenure and comfort in a fast, zero-to-one setting

Fully on-site in Los Angeles. Unable to sponsor or transfer visas, so US work authorization is required.
