JOB-1403

A maritime robotics company building uncrewed ocean vehicles is hiring a software engineer to develop the autonomy that runs on those vessels. You will write C++ that ships onto real hardware and contribute to a multi-year effort to expand what the vehicles can do on their own.

Responsibilities

  • Write, test and ship production-grade C++ autonomy code for the company’s uncrewed vessels
  • Create and combine algorithms covering navigation, planning, perception, localization, decision logic and avoidance of collisions and terrain
  • Take part in sensor fusion work that blends radar, cameras and further sensor types, producing a single picture of the surroundings that feeds planning
  • Develop route planning at both short-range and long-range scales, drawing on maps and sensor readings to pick routes and vehicle actions
  • Weigh reliability, latency, compute cost, robustness and accuracy when selecting approaches for constrained onboard hardware
  • Check autonomous behavior and track down failures by combining simulated runs, test results, logged telemetry and data from actual vehicles, building your own tools (often in Python) along the way
  • Help shape how the company’s future autonomy platform is architected and how it evolves

Qualifications

  • Five or more years in autonomy or robotics software, with strong C++
  • Experience shipping algorithms on physical vehicles or hardware
  • Hands-on work deciding how a vehicle or drone should move, such as motion planning, pathfinding, guidance or control
  • Familiarity with sensor fusion, state estimation, tracking and handling noisy data
  • Experience with self-driving cars, aerospace, defense or marine systems is a plus
