COMPANY BACKGROUND

An established law firm is seeking a Commercial Real Estate Paralegal to support the firm’s Real Estate Practice Group in any of its offices in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut or Washington, DC.

JOB SUMMARY 

The Commercial Real Estate Paralegal will be responsible for coordinating and conducting due diligence for a broad range of commercial real estate transactions, including financing, acquisitions, dispositions, development projects, and joint ventures. This role involves working closely with attorneys, clients, and third-party providers to review, summarize, and resolve diligence matters prior to closing. The ideal candidate will also provide training and mentorship to junior team members in these areas.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct title, survey, and zoning reviews for commercial real estate matters, including preparation of summaries, document abstracts, title objection letters, estoppels, SNDA agreements, releases, notices, and other related documents.
  • Advise attorneys and clients on ALTA title insurance standards, NSPS survey standards, and relevant zoning ordinances.
  • Negotiate and finalize diligence documentation with title companies, surveyors, and zoning consultants.
  • Identify and highlight diligence issues, serving as a resource to attorneys in determining appropriate resolutions.
  • Review and ensure recordable transaction documents are in proper form.
  • Track and manage post-closing title, survey, and zoning obligations to ensure timely completion.
  • Train and mentor junior paralegals and attorneys in diligence review processes.
  • Support closing paralegals in preparing closing binders and related deliverables.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience handling due diligence for commercial real estate closings (law firm experience preferred).
  • Must have experience with commercial, not residential, real estate; exposure to both financing and acquisitions strongly preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Deep knowledge of title, survey, and zoning matters in commercial real estate.
  • Strong attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and identify key issues.
  • Skilled at managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience advising internal teams and negotiating with external parties.
  • Proven track record in training and mentoring others.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
